Dr Lauren Shatz - Eye Physicians of Northampton

Dr. Shatz received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his fellowship training in cornea, cataract and LASIK surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute before settling in Northampton in 2003.Dr. Shatz summarizes his work as “RESTORING, ENHANCING and PRESERVING vision” for all of his patients.  He performs modern, no-stitch cataract surgery and employs state-of-the-art lens implant technology to meet each patient’s unique visual needs and lifestyle. For LASIK and Advanced Surface Ablation treatments, he uses the Wavelight EX500 excimer laser, the fastest refractive surgery platform available in the U.S.In addition to performing sophisticated microsurgery, Dr. Shatz emphasizes simple prevention techniques to optimize vision and ocular health.
Comprehensive eye screening and close attention to risk factors that may predict future problems is crucial. Dr. Shatz trains residents from Baystate Medical Center at his offices in Florence and Amherst. At your office visit, you may be asked permission to allow one of these doctors-in-training to observe him.Volunteer work is another important component of Dr. Shatz’s career. On a yearly basis, he provides free eye care services to underserved populations in countries where quality health care can be scarce and not taken for granted. Most recently he travelled to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to perform cataract surgery with a team of local doctors. Prior to that, he worked in Nevis, West Indies with his partner, Dr. Hubbe, who oversees an eye care program that provides cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment and diabetic eye care to residents of the island.

“I really can’t thank Dr. Shatz enough for his wonderful work with my LASIK procedure. He provided me with everything I needed to know both before and after the surgery, always made himself available, was kind and patient with my questions, and did a phenomenal job with the operation itself. He and his office have a life-long customer in me. Thanks!!” – Paul J.

“I just had my LASIK surgery with Dr. Shatz yesterday, and I already have 20/20 vision!!! I was very nervous about this procedure; however, he and his team were very attentive to all my needs, explained what to expect before, during and after the surgery. He even called me a few hours later to check on the status of my recovery. I only wish I came here a year earlier when my husband did. He is still talking about how well he can see and how pleased he is. We highly recommend LASIK with Dr. Shatz to anyone who is interested.” – Ozge S.

“I had cataract surgery with Dr. Shatz about 3 weeks ago. I am so pleased! The procedure was easy (a few minutes of very mild discomfort) and my vision was improved almost immediately. The care at the Cataract and Laser Center was great, people were really kind and reassuring, as was Dr. Shatz. The best thing about it? I hadn’t realized how much my vision had changed in terms of color and brightness; I was seeing through a brown/gray film. The world looks bright and beautiful and new again!” – Lisa B.
