Rejuvenate Your Appearance & Vision: Eyelid Lift Surgery in Northampton & Amherst

Do friends often say you look tired, even when you feel rested? Do heavy, drooping eyelids make you appear older than you feel or obstruct your field of vision? The delicate skin around our eyes is often the first place to show signs of aging or functional changes. At Eye Physicians of Northampton, we understand that concerns about your eyelids can affect both your appearance and your eyesight. Our expert team, including eyelid lift surgery specialist Dr. Omer Gal, offers advanced surgical solutions like blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), ptosis repair (droopy eyelid correction), and brow lifts. These procedures will help restore a more youthful, alert appearance and improve your vision that may be compromised by sagging tissues. We proudly serve patients from Florence, Amherst, and throughout Western MA.

Eyelid lift surgery encompasses several procedures designed to address common concerns around the upper and lower eyelids and brow area:

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift):

This procedure removes or repositions excess skin, muscle, and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. Upper blepharoplasty corrects puffiness and sagging skin that can hang over the eyelashes, sometimes impairing vision. Lower blepharoplasty addresses under-eye bags and smooths the transition from the lower lid to the cheek.

Ptosis Repair:

Ptosis refers to the drooping of the upper eyelid itself, caused by a weakened or stretched levator muscle (the muscle that lifts the eyelid). Unlike excess skin, ptosis requires specific surgical techniques to tighten this muscle, elevating the eyelid to its proper position and clearing the field of vision.

Brow Lift:

Sometimes, the appearance of heavy upper eyelids is actually caused or worsened by sagging eyebrows. A brow lift elevates the position of the brows, smoothing the forehead and reducing the “hooding” effect over the eyes, creating a more open and refreshed look.

Are You a Candidate for Eyelid Lift Surgery?

You may be a good candidate for eyelid or brow surgery if you experience:

  • Excess, sagging skin on your upper eyelids
  • Puffiness or bags under your eyes
  • Droopy upper eyelids (ptosis) that may interfere with your vision
  • Heavy or low-set eyebrows contributing to a tired or aged appearance
  • A desire for a more rested, youthful look around the eyes

Will my insurance pay for eyelid surgery?

Insurance may pay for eyelid surgery if your upper eyelids are drooping and blocking your vision and testing performed in our clinic confirms this. Insurance companies require a visual field test be obtained to demonstrate that the eyelids block the peripheral vision and that the vision is improved by elevating the eyelids. Insurance companies typically require that the medical need be documented with photographs which are reviewed by the insurance company during the preauthorization process. Some problems like mild excess upper eyelid skiing or bags in the lower eyelids do not affect vision and are never paid for by insurance companies. Many of the procedures we perform are done only to improve appearances and these cosmetic procedures are not paid for by your insurance company.
